WELCOMING NEW EMPLOYEES TO THE ORGANIZATION
Making your new employees feel
welcomed in your organization is a very crucial factor to build a strong, long-term
relationship with the employee. The first impression is everything! It is the final
step of the recruitment process that comes under the human resource management department.
There are several things that the managers can do to make the new employees feel at ease.
Why do you need to welcome your
new employee?
The first few days of his or her
job set a long-term impression of the new employee that will have an enormous
impact on his or her experience of the organization. It also shows the
professionalism of the organization and the welcoming culture that the company
has. Showing your new employee that the organization is very excited to have them
going to motivate and make them feel valued.
How to welcome a new employee?
Write a welcome email – Welcome
emails gives the impression of recognition of the new employee and also the organization
can use this mail to officially communicate the dress code, working hours, meal hours etc. Through this mail.
Induction training session – Giving
the information about the organization and a booklet that include everything
that an employee knows about the organization is very helpful for an employee to
get himself move around the organization. The Human Resource Department also
should introduce him to all the employees in different departments which will
help the new employee to build relationships easily. Also setting up the official
email, introduction to the systems that the organization use, storage
facilities and technical setting should be provided on the first day.
Make an onboarding plan – It is
not good to load the employee with all the information and training sessions on the
first day itself. The onboarding plan should be prepared in advance that can
address the needs of the department and the new employee. HR has to make
sure that the onboarding plan fills with things that the new employee can feel
productive as soon as he joins the organization. The employee, manager and the mentor can monitor the employee through this program and provide the necessary
training when and where needed.
Meeting with HR staff – It is a must that the HR team has a quick chat with the new employee on the first day so that he or she can ask questions about benefits, policies and compensation.
Also, HR can communicate with the new employee about the culture of the organization
and expectations of the organization of new employees.
Assign the new employee a mentor –
It is important to assign an experienced employee with no reporting
relationship to the new employee to help the employee to adjust to the new
working environment and also to mentor the employee to reach his or her next skill
or educational level that will ultimately benefit the organization.
Conclusion
Welcoming a new employee to an organization
plays a key role in retaining the employee in the organization and in a lower
turnover. Also, the process will showcase that the organization has the professionalism in every process which will ultimately build a brand name for
the organization as they care for their employees. The process also will have a positive
impact on attracting the right candidate for the jobs of the employer.
